Born in Coventry Rhode Island in 1954, I was selling oil
paintings by the time I was 14. I wish I had some of those old
paintings now! Art classes as a child fueled the passion within.
Painting continued until the birth my son in 1974 then, was
put aside for many years while all my attention was given to
raising my son. After a divorce in 1982, I spent a few years as
single mom. There was no time for painting back then.
In 1976 I started working in the Electric Boat division of
General Dynamics, as a nuclear pipefitter and hydraulic
specialist, and later as a blueprint and pipefitting instructor. I
built many of the hydraulic missile tube launch systems on
board nuclear submarines, still in use today. It was there I met
and married the real love of my life, Capt. Dave Sutton. Of
course he was not Capt. Dave yet. That came years later after a
move to Miami in 1990.It was here that the passion for
painting was rekindled. Fishing with Dave in Florida gave me a
new life I had almost forgotten about. I started selling original
tropical paintings in the Florida Keys. Around 1998 my work
morphed into Marine Art. It has been a fire drill since. I began
selling watercolors reproduced on tile to many Tournaments in
the Miami and Keys area. I was invited to sell tiles in the
Redbone Gallery in Islamorada, and it grew from there. My
portfolio has grown to include tropical birds and orchids, but I
keep going back to the fish I love the most. Marine animals
and wildlife will always be my favorite subjects, and
watercolors will always be my favorite form of painting. Three
wildlife photographers in Florida have now given me
permission to paint their photographs, so look for more birds
and wildlife in the future. I paint mostly with watercolors and
have developed a technique that includes watercolors and
pencil. I like detail in my painting, and using pencil as in a
portrait, with watercolors, enables me to achieve great detail,
and still have the ease of watercolor. Even with my love of
watercolors I find myself going back to the oils I used to love.
You will now find a page of original oils in my site. I love the
smell of oils, and am happiest when I am in the middle of a
painting. When I walk in the studio and smell the paint, the
adrenalin flows. It's what gets me up in the morning.
I am very blessed, and give the credit to friends who
encourage, and Capt. Dave who’s support has helped opened
the door to many opportunities. Please enjoy the site and feel
free to e-mail to say hello.
